"A futuristic look of what may be."

A fantastic view as to the future of mankind space travel and the teraforming of Mars. Although the book is a bit slow in some places in others the pace really picks up to a point that you dont want to stop reading. Overall I thought this book was a superb work of science fiction that sets the standard for for the next two books in this trilogy.

Description

The first novel in Kim Stanley Robinson's massively successful and lavishly praised Mars trilogy. Mars -- the barren, forbidding planet that epitomises mankind's dreams of space conquest. From the first pioneers who looked back at Earth and saw a small blue star, to the first colonists -- hand-picked scientists with the skills necessary to create life from cold desert -- Red Mars is the story of a new genesis. It is also the story of how Man must struggle against his own self-destructive mechanisms to achieve his dreams: before he even sets foot on the red planet, factions are forming, tensions are rising and violence is brewing...for civilization can be very uncivilized.

Author Biography

Kim Stanley Robinson was born in 1952 and, after travelling and working around the world, has now settled in his beloved California. He is widely regarded as the finest science fiction writer working today, noted as much for the verisimilitude of his characters as the meticulously researched hard science basis of his work. He has won just about every major sf award there is to win.

Accolades:

Nebula Award Winner 1994.
