Purchased on Mighty Ape

If you like suspense & drama it doesn't get any better than this series.

Helen Mirren is at her absolute best & you keep coming back for more. So pleased I purchased the box set as I've see all there is to see but would love to see her reprise this role.

Prime Suspect:
Tough, chain-smoking London detective Jane Tennison is hired into a boys' club police department to solve an ongoing investigation. While at first she's met with resentment and aggression from her male co-workers, eventually her outstanding capability wins them over. Exposing a longtime police coverup, Jane uncovers other, related murders.

Prime Suspect 2:
Detective Jane Tennison obsessively pursues the mystery behind the remains of a young girl discovered in the Afro-Caribbean section of London. Again faced with prejudice and stereotypes from all sides - from both outside public to inside the police department - Jane has to negotiate her way to a solution. Helen Mirren was nominated for an Emmy for her riveting, remarkably real portrait of a female detective who succeeds in an unforgiving business.

Prime Suspect 3:
Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison moves to a new district and is put in charge of a vice investigation instead of homicide. But soon a homicide case impinges on her new job when a very young male prostitute is murdered in the apartment of Vera Reynolds, a female impersonator. Soon Jane is on the trail of the boy's brutal young pimp (David Thewlis). But her investigation is complicated by the Old Boy's Network, which is spying on her and is more concerned with preventing scandal than bringing the villain to justice.

Prime Suspect 4 - The Lost Child:
Jane Tennison's promotion to Superintendent turns out to put her in charge of an investigation and search for an abducted baby. She gets more involved in it than she intended considering that she just had an abortion. However, she turns out to be the one of most cool headed of her team when the prime suspect seems to be a man who was a child molester recently released from a clinic. As people start to investigate him, emotions get in the way and terrible mistakes are made that seem beyond Supt. Tennison's ability to correct.

Prime Suspect 5 - Errors of Judgment:
Tennison on a new beat investigates the killing of a drug runner, with the runner's employer, "The Street," as her prime suspect. Meanwhile, The Street is conducting his own investigation into the killing, with the help of his team of hoodlums and his vicious Rottweilers. And as Tennison rankles that her subordinates accuse her of sleeping her way to the top, she begins an affair with her married supervisor.

Prime Suspect 6 - The Last Witness:
It's been seven years since Tennison put the handcuffs on a psychotic killer. Now, amid pressure to retire, she faces a death squad that has unleashed the horrors of the Balkan civil war on London.

Prime Suspect 7 - The Final Act: (2 Disc Set)
The gripping conclusion to one of TV's best-loved detective dramas. Series 7 centres on Jane Tennison (Helen Mirren, CALENDAR GIRLS, GOSFORD PARK), a high ranking detective whose life starts to unravel when she is faced with retirement and the imminent death of her father. Over-worked and emotionally vulnerable, Tennison commits professional suicide by befriending the witness in a murder investigation and turns to the bottle to drown her sorrows.
