"A true joy to read"

For anyone who may have considered reading this book, but have been put off by thinking it will be stuffy and old fashioned…forget your reservations and buy it. This is one of the most opposite-of-stuffy books (regardless of age) I've read. Very readable, fast paced, and entertaining the whole way through.

Best of all is Austen's wicked sense of humour and the vividly drawn and engaging characters. I don't think I've ever read another book where the author has transmitted so much information about their characters in so few words. Love 'em or hate 'em (and some of the funniest are not at all lovable!) you will understand their motivations and be drawn into their stories.

This is one of those rare books you will read over and over and continue to enjoy it at least as much as the first time. :)

Elizabeth Bennet is young, clever and attractive, but her mother is a nightmare and she and her four sisters are in dire need of financial security and escape in the shape of husbands. The arrival of nice Mr Bingley and arrogant Mr Darcy in the neighbourhood turns all their lives upside down in this witty drama of friendship, rivalry, enmity and love.

Author Biography

Jane Austen was born in Steventon rectory on 16 December 1775. Her family later moved to Bath and then to Chawton in Hampshire. She began writing Pride and Prejudice when she was twenty-two years old. It was originally called First Impressions. It was initially rejected by publishers and only published in 1813 after much revision. All four of her novels published in her lifetime were published anonymously. Jane Austen died on 18 July 1817. Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were published posthumously.
