This volume is one of a series of works on maritime history, which aims to investigate and interpret the British maritime past and European and international maritime topics from the earliest times to the contemporary world. This title is a collection of investigations into British naval power in the closing centuries of the sailing ship era. The contributors examine the constraints of British naval power in its heyday, looking at the problems which limited its freedom of action and how some, but not all, of these were overcome.
