Pain & Glory
Pedro Almodovar writes and directs this Spanish drama starring Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz. As a film director begins to struggle with his health, he reflects on his life so far. From his memories as a young boy and his relationship with his mother, Jacinta, (Cruz/Julieta Serrano) to his adult life dabbling in drugs and realising his sexuality, Salvador (Banderas) wrestles with his conscience over the key decisions he has made.
Critic Reviews:
- " There is jubilation and wonder to be found in these remembrances, moments of pure bliss that are beyond imagining. " – Sara Michelle Fetters
- " Almodóvar shows us that, even after nearly two dozen features over several decades, he can still hold an audience in his hand – and surprise it. " – Moira MacDonald
- " A masterful, melancholy, tender, lacerating self-examination, filled with colour and light and the ghosts of those he has loved. Almodovar at 70, and perhaps astonishing to himself, continues to grow. " – Paul Byrnes
