This volume results from the series of Euro-American Bethel-Cleveland conferences. This latest meeting was held in Bielefeld, Germany, March 1995. The book provides an up-to-date prospectus of imaging techniques and surgery in the infant suffering from epilepsy. The book emphasizes new developments in antiepileptic drugs that have changed the pharmacologic management of children with epilepsy and the expanding definitions of medical intractability in childhood epilepsy. The technological advances in neuroimaging, neurophysiology and surgical techniques are other areas that are covered. The book focuses on the various epilepsy syndromes that are amenable to surgical treatment, as has become more apparent over the last few years. Further, the role of epilepsy surgery in the management of catastrophic infantile epilepsy, cortical dysplasia, the various developmental lesions, phakomatosis and temporal lobe epilepsy is also covered. The book is intended for the specialist - epileptologists, surgeons, child neurologists - as well as carers of children with epilepsy.
