Since the end of the civil war in the early 1990s, Beirut has become a fertile ground for radical and innovative art-making and critical thought. This publication introduces recent work by artists living in the city across the visual arts, film, performance and architecture, and asks questions about the role of art and artists within the context of changing societies. It is published to coincide with the exhibition Out of Beirut at Modern Art Oxford (13 May to 16 July 2006).
