In the nomen clature of diseases of the male genito-urinary organs we find descriptive words applied to special operations, as for example, urethral dilatation, urethral divulsion, internal and external urethrotomy, excision of the third lobe of the pros tate gland. These are all words or phrases intended _to fix the attention upon the various resources of our art for overcoming the 'obstacles which prevent the performance of the normal functions of the organs involved. These Operations are all based solely on the idea of maintaining the genital tract intact, without hindrance or implication of neighboring organs, and are known to be in strict accord ance with the highest aims of pathology, physiology, and therapeutics.
