Omar
Omar is a 2013 Palestinian drama film on DVD, directed by Hany Abu-Assad.
Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Academy Awards®, and winner of the Jury Prize (Un Certain Regard) at the Cannes Film Festival, OMAR is a powerful and tense thriller from the director of PARADISE NOW.
Omar is a Palestinian baker who secretly climbs over the separation wall to meet his love, Nadia, in Israel. On the other side of the wall, the sensitive young man becomes a freedom fighter who, together with his childhood friends Tarek and Amjad, risks his life every day. When he is captured after a deadly act of resistance, he falls into a cat-and-mouse game with the Israeli military police. Suspicion and betrayal jeopardise his longtime trust with his friends, further complicated by fact that his love, Nadia, is Tarek’s sister. Is he betraying his cause? And who can he trust on either side?

- " This is a subtle political film: one that fully dramatises a situation and lets us think out its contradictions for ourselves. " – Jonathan Romney
- " The end result is a nerve-rattling entertainment flavoured by vigorous, deeply felt polemic. " – Donald Clarke
