Kay returned home to Norwich for a short winter break but a chain of events led to her stranded in her hometown. Growing up, there were so few strangers to the town, they could be counted. Now, due to the impact of a casino, transients are everywhere. Struggling to return to Arizona, Kay enrolls in the community college and moves to Taftville where she witnesses injustices at every turn. The memory of the small town she grew up in is forever changed as she meets people struggling with injustices and watches the streets become more mean. The situation in the town becomes more clear to Kay with every passing day until finally, she witnesses her childhood friend murdered and she knows she must leave immediately.
