A young farm boy discovers a stray dog and wants to keep him for a pet. But his father will only have working dogs on the farm and refuses to allow the boy to keep the dog. The boy thinks his father has shot the dog and is heartbroken. Some time later the boy becomes lost in the bush and is in trouble when the sun goes down and the temperature drops. Out of nowhere the dog appears and stays with the boy, keeping him warm, until searchers find them in the morning. The dog then disappears, never to be seen again. Based on a true story, this stunningly illustrated, poignant tale of a boy and a dog really touches the heartstrings. A dog story from a proven story-teller. Stunningly illustrated; suitable for study by art students - artist's notes available. Sophisticated story with multi-layered imagery
