Thomas Schmidt is an expert on Lewis and Clark's Voyage of Discovery, and he has written extensively about the nature and history of the Rocky Mountain region. He is the author of several of National Geographic's road guides to US national parks, including the one for Yosemite. Schmidt lives in Bozeman, Montana.
