Author Biography:

Michael Hammar was born William S. (Bill) Peckham in Niagara Falls, July 19, 1931. He was a shy child and his mom and dad had no idea he would turn out to be one of Canada's foremost authorities in home renovations, appearing over a thirty-year period on radio, television and home show stages across Canada. Bill worked in the lumber business for nearly 20 years. He held jobs from yard-hand to marketing and advertising manager of one of Ontario's largest independent retail building centers. In 1971, while working as marketing manager at a lumber company in St. Catharines, ON, Bill approached a local radio station about hosting a home-renovation radio show. The call-in, home-renovation show was born, the first of its kind in Canada. Bill took the stage name Michael C. Hammar. His stage presentations were popular features every year in home shows from Vancouver to Halifax. As Michael Hammar, Bill wrote for magazines and newspapers, broadcast on local radio, wrote and hosted the national television show, Don't Move Improve. He has shared his knowledge and experiences with literally millions of people throughout his long career. Bill (or Michael, as many will remember him) retired after fifty-two years in the home-improvement field... nearly 30 years of that time as a broadcaster, writer and entertainer. He was a pioneer in his field. In 2002, like so many other pioneers, Bill moved west to Kelowna B.C. With his new wife and partner, he is still performing, but now as a singer and comedian, at many seniors' homes and retirement villages in the Kelowna, B.C. area.
