Description

This is a historical novel about World War I. It is an historical novel set in WW1. It is 1914 and war comes to a small market town. 20 per cent of the town population goes off to fight. There is a wonderful upsurge of community spirit and the whole town rallies behind the troops. The story follows the fortunes of 16 men and a number of women as the war progresses and on to the Armistice in 1918. So many lives lost or ruined at immeasurable cost to the future. The historical background follows the contribution of the 'Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, who lost 5800 men, in France and the reported events in the town. The lads sang as they left for the front. Songs raised the spirits; songs were the common currency of comradeship. They were balm for the soul and came from the heart. The world would never be the same again. 100 men did not return.
