Description

This is a gentle book of reassurance to let children know that they are still loved despite the fact that mummy is poorly. When a parent is bi-polar or suffers from a depressive or other mental illness, it can be hard for a child to understand that a parent's withdrawal does not mean they have stopped loving them. This little book by Rosita Bird, beautifully illustrated by Lynn Costelloe, could help avoid insecurity and provide reassurance that things will eventually return to normal. Endorsed by author and mental health and disability advocate Jeanette Purkiss

Author Biography

Rosita is married with two children. She has worked as a legal secretary, a childminder, nursery assistant, and as an accommodation provider for fostered teenagers. She attributes former health problems to not eating properly as a child, thus many of her books are aimed at encouraging healthy eating and have received positive feedback from Jamie Oliver's team. In addition several of them raise money for various charities. Lynn Costelloe is a retired teacher and lives in Sheffield, where she divides her time between caring for her two grandchildren and writing and illustrating books for children, which include several by Rosita Bird. Jeanette is an author and mental health and disability advocate. She has a lived experience of mental illness and Autism and is the autistic author of Finding a Different Kind of Normal (an autobiography), The Wonderful World of Work (a book about employment for teens on the autism spectrum) and The Guide to Good Mental Health on the Autism Spectrum. Jeanette is an autistic self-advocate and travels around Australia giving presentations about autism. She is an ambassador for many autism organisations and has been employed full-time in a professional role with the Australian Public Service since 2007. She hosts a support group for autistic women, has her own internet-based radio show entitled Jeanette's Autism Show and a significant profile on social media.
