The third movie in the Tom Cruise franchise is lifted by the performance of Philip Seymor Hoffman, who lends a menacing gravity to his role as arms dealer. But the romantic plotline, that threatens to derail the story, is not convincing. Michelle Monaghan's character has little to work with and film lacks the witty dialogue that elevates the rest of the movies that followed. It has lots of crazy stunts, thanks to JJ Abrams at the helm; when things go bang they do it spectacularly. So a satisfying boys night in if not a memorable one.
