Description

John Stuart Mill's thought has been central in works discussing the relationship between liberalism and nationality and in shaping liberal attitudes towards nationality. This book provides a study of Mill's ideas and aims to clarify some of the misconceptions surrounding his writings on nationalism. The book examines notions of "liberal nationalism", the importance of race, national character and politics, international relations, self-determination and foreign policy. As well as contributing to scholarship in the history of political thought and intellectual history, this work also adds to debates regarding nationhood, nationalism, patriotism and the meaning of "Englishness".
