"Almost one of a kind."
5 stars"

There are only a handful of games I'd give a 5-star rating. Might and Magic VI and VII are two of these. Excellent story, non-liniar progression and interesting skill-based combat make for an interesting game. The graphics are obviously rather out-dated nowadays, but that definitely doesn't stop me enjoying the game on its own merits every now and then.

If you're keen to try an old-school free-roaming RPG, I really couldn't rate this game higher. The Mandate of Heaven is top-notch too, if you can get your hands on it.

"Too much of a good thing?"
3 stars"

All of Might and Magic's later games are one and the same with slightly different plot-lines that always come back to the tried and true, sellout, rehashed “Saver of Universe” deal. It's an okay game which oddly enough I was very drawn into. It leaves you yearning to complete it despite any detracting factors.

Fantastic time-killer when I was younger but I will say that it doesn't quite stand up against the many other/better RPGs these days. So if you're on a bit of a nostalgic trip, try this out. You may like, you may not. It's a love hate chance with this game. And if you do like it, you'll definitely enjoy it's predecessors, if you've got the patience to stand a little monotony.

Description

Might and Magic VII is a computer role-playing game set in Erathia, a mystical land of magic and adventure. You will guide the actions of a group of four heroes - armored swordsmen, daring thieves, gifted archers and wielders of arcane sorcery - as they explore the land, sea and subterranean passages in search of treasure and glory. Your characters will begin their journey possessing only the most basic skills and equipment, and are barely deserving of the title "adventurer." As they continue, however, they will acquire personal abilities, enchanted artifacts, deadly weapons, and powerful knowledge, all of which they will need to face the greater challenges ahead...to one day epitomize a true adventurer. Features:
  • More character development – more character classes, and character races. Players can be elf, dwarf, human, and goblin. Players will also be able to develop their characters as either good or evil and still finish the game.
  • Addictive game play - continuous in-game rewards give players a sense of accomplishment as they journey throughout the world. Multiple in game "cut scenes" will give players a better sense of the ongoing story, as well as provide refreshing vignettes.
  • New monsters – all new monster graphics. Most monsters will be coming from Heroes 3, which has the best set of monster graphics to date. Includes 26 completely new monsters.
  • Accessibility – easier learning curve for ‘new users’ and a new training grounds area which allows players to become accustomed to the game, interface, movement, etc.
  • New Story and character involvement – players will start off in a ‘management’ role and will be led through quite a bit of the story and quests, etc. by advisors. New story has character playing in ‘contested lands’ which will lead to AI battles that the player can join or avoid.
