Born in 1935, Porta reveals the terrors and excitement of living in the 20th century as he charts the two complementary functions of definition and falsity. For Porta, these poles are at the opposite ends of cultural experience.

Author Biography:

Antonio Porta is also the author of Zero, Aprire, I Rapporti, Week-end, Passi passaggi and melusina: una balata e un diario. He died in 1989.
