Since few years metal matrix composites (MMCs) with light metal matrix are successfully applied in the automotive industry, e.g. in fiber-reinforced pistons or hybrids for crank cases. A further important field of indsutrial applications of these high-tech materials is the aerospace industry. The properties of MMCs can be directly designed "into" the material.
