Description

Excerpt from Memory Training: A Complete and Practical System for Developing and Confirming the Memory; Adapted to All Kinds of Subjects W1: hear a great deal in these days about discover ies. No doubt, from a scientifical point of view, this is an age of discoveries but in the region of the mind very little is known to-day that was not known to Plato and to Aristotle. What does Aristotle say about the act of remembering? When, therefore, we accomplish an act of reminis cence, we pass through a certain series of precursive movements, until we arrive at a movement on which the one we are in quest of is habitually consequent. Hence, too, it is that we hunt through the mental train, excogitating from the present or some other, and from similar or (outrary or (owl/imam Through this process reminiscence takes place. The above is Sir William Hamilton's translation of a passage from the tract De Memoria et Reminiscen tia, and is the key to this little volume. The three laws of mental suggestion are thus clearly enunciated by Aristotle. To talk, therefore, of dkmwring these laws in our days is jm'md fade absurdity - a bait to catch the unwary and a means to make money. They are principles which we have been using all our lives, and it is this that gives them importance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
