I'm a great fan of the Alien franchise and this was an opportunity to take a look back at the genesis of the story. This starts off ok with some interesting insights into Giger's monsters and how the movie came to be made. Unfortunately it gradually deteriorates in interest with great chunks of sanctimonious retrospective claptrap by a seemingly endless parade of idealistic pseudo intellectual commentary. They seem to be able to look back and concoct any amount of symbolism to fit the films construction eg “The chest bursting scene was Ridley Scotts commentary on his own mortality” Really--- oddly the person who barely features in this is Ridley Scott himself. If you feel the need to explore your inner child this might be for you. Otherwise barring some scant precious moment of enlightenment it's a lesson in paralysis by analysis. A much better option is a remastered set of the first four alien offerings with six discs which pragmatically follow the genesis and production of one of the best movie franchises in cinema without the ideological anchors which weigh down this offering.
