A sweet story cleverly interlaced with trivia, nostalgia and current day references to Canada's favourite pastime, Melvin and Hockey Night in the Town of Shinny is the third book in the Melvin The Mouse series by author, Christina Burke. Each enchanting, yet educational tale follows a resourceful, studious and hockey-loving mouse named Melvin as he and his animal friends in the town of Shinny discover the fascinating origins of hockey -- a book sure to be loved by the little hockey player in your life.
Christina Burke, a former Canadian National Champion ringette player and a competitive hockey player, knows her way around a rink! With her three young children all in hockey, she is now at an arena pretty much every day of the week. The concept for the Melvin books was first inspired by creating her own fun, imaginative stories for her eldest son, Tucker, a HUGE hockey fan since an early age. After her second son, Brody, and her daughter Autumn were born, the stories continued to develop. The response from her kids was so overwhelming to the concept of Melvin The Mouse that Christina became curious about the history of the game and it led to her researching and writing several books for the Melvin series. With the support of her husband Jason and his contribution to the Chalk Talk section, Christina continues to embrace life as a quintessential hockey family with the creation of these warm and colorful stories. The Melvin The Mouse Series was created as a result of Christina's passion for hockey, but more specifically, her passion for her children. "I want Melvin The Mouse to be a fun, inspiring reading experience for every child, parent and grandparent out there! Melvin is a gift to my children, and I would be extremely proud if it warmed the hearts of others as much as it has ours."
