As a matter of fact, the disease has been reported in two or three portions of the United States al ready. The recognition oi these diseases must, therefore, rest upon the general practitioner. At the present time this is not an easy task. The reason for this lies in the fact that up to a few years ago, practically no instructions whatever were given in the medical schools upon the subject of tropical diseases. These were regarded entirely as exotic and it was thought that they could never gain a foothold on American soil. The investigations of the last few years, however, have shown that we really live in a sub-tropical climate and that those diseases which were formerly considered as confined to the tropics may find lodgment in al most every portion of this country.
