Good factual book regarding the ‘nuts and bolts’ of ongoing chronic pain and its effects both mental and physical. This book should be recommended reading before undertaking any type of intensive pain treatment programme or just for being ‘armed’ with knowledge that could help and make chronic pain less scary.

Covers stress and problem solving, dealing with medical professionals, relationships, relaxation techniques, sleep, interactions with those around you, how to work with your doctor and exercise programmes.

Offers good practical solutions and offers different ways of looking at things.

If you have chronic pain and you are wondering if this book could be helpful to you try answering the following questions. Over the last month or so how often have you: 1. Used pain killers to do something you know will stir up your pain? 2. Done an activity until it is finished (regardless of pain) then rested? 3. Found that pain is interfering with your sleep work sport and social activities? 4. Had one or more long rest periods during the day due to pain? 5. Had upsetting thoughts when your pain gets worse (like 'I can't go on' 'it's killing me')? 6. Been concerned that your doctors have missed something? 7. Been told to 'live with the pain' but not shown how to do it? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions then MANAGE YOUR PAIN will help to improve your life. In MANAGE YOUR PAIN the authors have drawn on the latest scientific research and their extensive clinical experience to show you how to live with pain. MANAGE YOUR PAIN will help you and your family to gain a better understanding of your pain and minimise the impact it has on your life. MANAGE YOUR PAIN is a self-help book but it can be used as part of a program worked out with your doctor clinical psychologist and/or therapist.
