Description

The Lost Cactus comic strip is laugh-out-loud cartoon lampooning the shadowy government world that operates beyond the realm of public knowledge. Lost Cactus - The First Treasury, is an Independent Publisher Silver Medal Award-Winning 'enhanced-reader' anthology. 'Enhanced-reader' describes John Hopkins' groundbreaking approach to expanding the Lost Cactus comic strip's shared universe. In addition to over 170 3-panel and Sunday Lost Cactus comics, this first-in-a-series of beautifully printed full-color treasuries contains an eclectic mix of science fiction short stories, witty essays, and conceptual artwork joined by a plethora of related trivia, artist commentary, and interactive quizzes. This framework is woven together into this vividly designed comic strip anthology. ABOUT THE LOST CACTUS COMIC STRIP: The Lost Cactus National Laboratory and Testing Facility - the namesake of the comic strip - evokes the intrigue of Area-51, with its sun-faded structures, Quonset huts, and hangars set against a colorful Southwestern desert landscape. The heart and soul of the comic strip's cast are the spunky Bentley the Bee and his quick-witted sidekick, Ty the Dinosaur. They are both genetic mutants created in the laboratory of Doc, the mysterious scientist and founder of Lost Cactus. General Fox is the befuddled base administrator; Penny is the all-too-popular Chief Medical Officer, and Professor Otto is the eccentric base psychiatrist. Sammy is an accident-prone ground squirrel who owes his anthropomorphic traits to an irradiated acorn. Cato the Alien is Doc's out-of-this-world science advisor. A panoply of lab rats, clone zombies, cacti, lizards, celebrities, and politicians make guest appearances throughout the strips. John Hopkins' distinctly original perspective on ever-evolving technologies, current events, and pop culture - blended with his keen interest in science fiction, conspiracy theories, paranormal, and urban myths - provide the grist for the comic strips, stories, and essays that are Lost Cactus. So sit back and enjoy your trip to Lost Cactus, and if you feel compelled to don a tinfoil hat, don't worry, you won't be the first. Author Biography:

John Hopkins is the "brains" behind the Lost Cactus comic strip. He weaves an eclectic mix of topics-from sci-fi, paranormal, and technology-fueled content with the cultural, political, and celebrity-focused world in which we live-into the comic strips, off-beat short stories, and acerbic commentaries. A professional illustrator, designer, writer, and proprietor of a successful design studio with a diverse clientele for over 20 years, John draws upon his experience while crafting Lost Cactus. His caffeine-fueled imagination-and gift for seeing the comically absurd in almost anything-provide the grist for his strip's plotlines and extensive backstory. As a life-long comic strip fan, he is proud to contribute Lost Cactus to this quintessentially American art form. John is a member of the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association and the Alliance of Independent Authors. He resides in sunny Southern California with his talented wife and son, and two nutty canines.
