War In The North is an action RPG that follows three heroes fighting Sauron's forces through the Northern areas of Middle Earth.
The graphics in this game are slightly dated, particularly on some of the environments and minor characters, but on the three protagonists are far superior. The game also has a robust original soundtrack which provides a great atmosphere.
The gameplay is simple but extremely fun and works well for the game to give a real Lord of the Rings feel. It is very much a hack and slash game, so will not appeal to every one. The AI are generally quite helpful but have little sense of self preservation, the upside to this is that they have a large priority on preserving your life. The game is best played with friends however, and while in the split screen mode the screen is split vertically, you eventually get used to this. You can also play with people online, or with a combination of local and online players.
The game is not overtly long, my first play through clocking around 10–12 hours, typical for games of this genre. This game does provide a challenge in places, which is more than a lot of modern games can say. Once you have completed the game you can play through it again on the next difficulty to provide you with a greater challenge.
If you enjoy Action RPG's/hack and Slash games, or are a fan of the Lord of the Rings books or films, I would highly recommend this game to you.
