Liverpool is a city with a wealth of history stretching back over 800 years to its founding in 1207. Aerial photography gives a unique insight into this wealth of history while also showing the modern vibrant city Liverpool has become. Jonathan Webb of Webb Aviation Aerial Photography has been documenting this changing face of the city and assembling an archive of thousands of images from which around 150 have been selected for this book to show some of the most interesting views of the city and its surroundings. Subjects range from the world heritage site at Pier Head to some ordinary looking suburban streets from which music emerged that would change the world. Using the latest professional digital photographic cameras and specialist lenses allows the subjects to be captured in a wealth of detail, even down to people sitting on the famous ferry going across the Mersey.
Webb Aviation is run by Jonathan C. K. Webb, who has been in the aerial photography business since 1991. The cameras used for the pictures in the book included both Pentax 645 negative cameras and modern digital cameras such as the Canon 5D professional DSLR, used for the 2006 images. He is a prolific aerial photographer, taking over 10,000 aerial photographs a year. Much of his work can be seen on the very popular webbaviation.co.uk website, which receives around three million hits a month from almost every country in the world. Jonathan's first book Manchester from the Air became a local best-seller in April 2007.
