Dubbed “The Sister Band of One Million Dollars”, Batucada Sound Machine are forging new paths in global music. This bunch of 15 mad musicians boasts members from Chile, Brazil, the UK and NZ – and as the numbers suggest, the sound they create is truly massive. This 8 track CD is the debut release from Batucada Sound Machine. Featuring an all star horn section, a 7-piece percussion line-up, MC Hazadus, the unstoppable Rota Barrington on drums and a host of others, BSM cooks up a wickedly high-octane brew of Latino groove, Brazilian beats and raw hiphop. At the beginning of 2005 the BSM crew traveled down to the WOMAD festival in Taranaki where the played two smoking shows along side some of New Zealand's biggest names as well as huge international acts. Urban Jazz funk group Ozomatali sat side of stage awe stuck the whole BSM show! Seven of the WOMAD tunes have been lovingly and painstakingly re-mixed into ‘Live At The Bowl Of Brooklands’, while the bonus track “Rivers of Rhyme” is taken from a special performance at Maori TV on the music show Coast. The horns are bright, drums and bass solid and as a listener you really feel like you could be dancing blissfully in the Taranaki afternoon sun.
