"Excellent re-issue"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

A great sounding remaster which has been thoughtfully put together with top notch quality all round. While analogue purists may lament the high-resolution digital masters used, those who use their ears will find that these are the definitive editions for those without immaculate original pressings.

"The best Led Zeppelin album?"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

New to vinyl collecting so one of my first record purchases had to be the first album from Led Zeppelin, which has, in my view, always been the best or most consistent album of theirs. Not being an audiophile, I can still attest that this sounded pretty awesome on my new setup and I found a few Youtubers who echoed the same sentiments about these 2014 reissues/remasters. I'll probably purchase more of them. Great price, packaging and delivery via Mighty Ape too!

Description

Digitally re-mastered edition of the Hard Rock quartet's 1969 debut album. Led Zeppelin were one of the most innovative and successful groups in modern music. The band has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for it's pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm.

Review:
Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was subtlety: it wasn't just an onslaught of guitar noise, it was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos. As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the extended psychedelic blues of “Dazed and Confused,” “You Shook Me,” and “I Can't Quit You Baby” often gather the most attention, the remainder of the album is a better indication of what would come later. “Babe I'm Gonna Leave You” shifts from folky verses to pummeling choruses; “Good Times Bad Times” and “How Many More Times” have groovy, bluesy shuffles; “Your Time Is Gonna Come” is an anthemic hard rocker; “Black Mountain Side” is pure English folk; and “Communication Breakdown” is a frenzied rocker with a nearly punkish attack. Although the album isn't as varied as some of their later efforts, it nevertheless marked a significant turning point in the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal.
