Description

Now that she's 13 years old, it's time for young Kiki to start thinking about her future. So one night, under the light of a full moon, she grabs her black cat, jiji, hops on her mogher's broom and heads off into the night. The next day she alights on a friendly oceanside city, and this, she tells her loyal and furry companion, is where she'll spend the next year learning how to become a real, honest-to-goodness witch.

Author Biography

Hayao Miyazaki is the most beloved animator in Japanese history and the creator of several successful films, including the 2002 Academy Award ®-winning SPIRITED AWAY, CASTLE IN THE SKY, PRINCESS MONONOKE (winner of the Japan Academy Award for Best Film release of 1997), MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO and KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE. Whether working with comics or animation, Miyazaki's work is known for its entertaining plots, compelling characters, and breathtaking art. He currently works out of Studio Ghibli, where he writes, draws and directs with partner Isao Takahata (GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES).

Author Biography:

Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan’s most beloved animation directors. In 2005 he was awarded the Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement, and his Studio Ghibli received the festival’s Osella Award for overall achievement in 2004. Miyazaki’s films include Spirited Away, winner of the 2002 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo, all of which have received great acclaim in the U.S. Miyazaki’s other achievements include the highly regarded manga series Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Starting Point: 1979-1996, a collection of essays, interviews, and memoirs that chronicle his early career and the development of his theories of animation. Both are published in English by VIZ Media.
