Description

This is a magnificently illustrated look at sculptor and performance artist Khanlar Gasimov's exhibition for the 54th Venice Biennale. Whether using rice, candy, plastic bottles or human hair, Azerbaijani artist Khanlar Gasimov creates deceptively simple installations that charm and disarm simultaneously. Having witnessed tremendous socio-political and cultural transformation in his native country over the last several decades, the artist gravitates towards everyday objects from which he elicits a kind of cultural melancholy. This volume celebrates Gasimov's exhibition in the Azerbaijani Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale, Italy.
