A glorious read, about a really fascinating and little-known historical character. Katherine Swynford was the ancestor to many British royals, yet she is virtually invisible in many history books. Weir has a light touch with her non-fiction which makes her books really readable – this is history for the non-historian.

Alison Weir is one of Britain's top-selling historians. She is the author of numerous works of history and historical fiction, specialising in the medieval and Tudor periods.
