Description

"Captivating!" "Colorful!" "Fun!" are words being used to describe this engaging story of a little bird's discovery of color and the greater world. His transformation attracts his friends, and they also seek change and enjoy friendly acceptance of their differences. The lively toucan characters and brilliant colors capture a child's imagination, and make it as fun for adults to read as it is for young audiences to listen. Written with captivating language and illustrated with mixed media, the story offers additional learning opportunities in Art, Science, Social Studies, and Language appreciation, which the author provides on her website, www.Youcandoitart.com.

Author Biography:

Marilee Donivan is an award-winning teacher and artist whose greatest joy is hearing the "oooh's" and "aaah's" of children as they discover, learn, and create. She loves teaching, and cooks up a smorgasbord of activities to go with her stories, for family fun, parties, and learning. Marilee's innovative teaching has been recognized with the Governor's Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, Christa McAuliffe Fellowship, State Farm Insurance Good Neighbor Award, NASA honors workshop, and Scholastic, Inc. She created the "You Can Do It! ART" Beginning Watercolor Kits with DVD demonstration lessons and painting materials, teaching lessons that encourage creativity in students of all ages. The kits are being used in homes, schools, and assisted living groups across the U.S. and in Canada. She has a Master's degree in curriculum and instruction, and enjoys teaching art as a volunteer in her granddaughter's classroom. She paints in watercolors, oils, and acrylics, plays the harp, laughs at funny-sounding words, and loves to read while sipping hot chocolate.
