Description

Bringing together documentary accounts, interviews, travel narratives, performance commentaries and collaborative writing - in contrast to more traditional and alienating modes of academic criticism - Just Play adopts more direct forms of critical engagement to explore the potential of community theater as a mode of social justice.Following the work of the Compania Nacional de Teatro de Mexico as they take adaptations and performances of Shakespeare, Brecht and Moliere to the people of rural Mexico, Just Play explores their practices and motivations and the implications for an engaged theater in the context of a globalized community. The book includes links throughout to audio interviews and new video footage of community performances.
