Description

Excerpt from Joseph Smith, Jr., As a Translator: Reprint of an Inquiry Conducted by Rt. Rev. F. S. Spalding, D. D., Late Bishop of Utah, With the Kind Assistance of Capable Scholars In the preface to the English edition of the Pearl of Great Price, published in Liverpool, July 11, 1851, Mr. Frank lin D. Richards describes the book, of which The Book of Abraham was a part, as a little collection of precious truths that will increase their ability to maintain and to defend the holy faith. His preface concludes with the following testimony: Nor do we conceive it possible for any unprejudiced person to arise from a careful perusal of this work, without being deep ly impressed with a sense of the Divine calling and holy ordina tion of the man by whom these revelations, translations and nar rations have been communicated to us. As impervious as the minds of men may be at present to convictions, the day is not far distant when sinners, as well as Saints, will know that Joseph Smith was one of the greatest men that ever lived upon the earth, and that under God he was the Prophet and founder of the dispensation Of the fullness of times, in which will be gathered into one all things which are in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth.
