This is the first complete biography of John Spargo, a key popularizer of evolutionary socialism in the Socialist Party of America in the early Twentieth century. One of the earliest forerunners of neoconservatism, he played a central role in constructing American anticommunism after 1917.

MARKKU MIKAEL RUOTSILA is Adjunct Professor of American and British History at the University of Tampere, Finland. His previous books include British and American Anticommunism Before the Cold War and Churchill and Finland: A Study in Anticommunism and Geopolitics.
