Maggie Lane is an active committee member of the Jane Austen Society. She has written several highly acclaimed books on the author, including Jane Austen and Food, A Charming Place, Bath in the Life and Novels of Jane Austen, Jane Austen's England, Jane Austen's Family and The Jane Austen Quiz and Puzzle Book. She has also appeared on television as an Austen expert.
