It's all about the Women
What happens when you combine a brilliant, all-female, all-star cast; celebrated comedy writer/director Diane English (“Murphy Brown”); and a classic story about a circle of New York friends- The answer is The Women, a smart, sparkling film celebrating what the modern woman wants in life, and how, with a little help from her friends, she’s going to get it, too. With a dream cast including Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith and Candice Bergen, The Women is a comedy about women, for women and by women – and is completely populated by women: not one male graces the screen throughout.
The Women whisks us into a busy pocket of Manhattan. At the centre of the tale is Mary Haines (Ryan), a thoroughly modern woman suddenly confronted with an age-old dilemma: a cheating husband. Mary appears to have it all: a beautiful home, a lovely 12-year old daughter, a successful Wall Street husband, and a career as a fashion designer. One thing Mary can always count on is the wonderful company of her girlfriends, Sylvie (Bening), the impeccably chic editor of a major fashion magazine, Edie (Messing), eccentric mother of five and Alex (Pinkett Smith), author and forthright glamour-puss.
