Description

Counselors in training must complete one class that is dedicated to the history, profession and practice of counseling. In this course, students learn about the various roles counselors play and the fields within they work. In Introduction to Professional Counseling, authors Sangganjanavanich and Reynolds organize the text around the new CACREP standards of developing professional identity. The book takes an integrated, developmental approach and is guided by practice exercises, reflection questions, case studies, as well as pre- and post- self assessments. These pedagogical aids will help students personalize the content of the course to their own lives and selves. Focusing in on intentionality and reflectivity this text also covers other areas such as working with special populations such as victims of crises/trauma, working with children, child advocacy, and an entire chapter on self care.
