Description

For ages 8-14. A historical novel in which young Jamie finds his grandfather's diary about growing up in East End London during World War II. Jamie relives his grandfather's experiences and also becomes interested in the war itself. He goes on to discover much about Canadian ace fighter pilot Willie McKnight and also helps in the restoration of a Hurricane fighter plane.

Author Biography:

Charles Reid was born and raised in London's East End during the Second World War. After his emigration to Canada in 1975, he discovered that the young Calgary flying ace from World War II, Willie McKnight, who had been one of his childhood heroes, was virtually unknown in his home town, even though a boulevard was named after him.
