Effective communications have been vital to the development of Australia, from the first telegraph lines to the National Broadband Network, from sea mail to email. In this book we show how telegraphy and Morse code created links between towns, colonies and overseas destinations, and how they reduced and eventually ended the 'tyranny of distance'. This is the story of postal services across Australia; the growth of the telegraph; and the advent of the telephone, the teleprinter, telex, fax and email, from 1788 to today.
