Description

Louis Botha and Jan Christiaan Smuts were comrades-in-arms in the Boer War, and between them as leaders of Boer commandos, gave the British Empire an enormous headache. When the Great War came, however, both were reconciled to their former foes, and became ardent warriors against Germany and for the Empire they had once fought. This book relates the duo's successful campaign to conquer the neighbouring German colony of South-West Africa (today's Namibia) from their native South Africa. Later in the war, Smuts would command operations with far less success - against that guerilla genius General von Lettow-Vorbeck in German East Africa ( today's Tanzania). Both Botha and Smuts would end their careers as firmly pro-British elder South African statesmen. Casualty List Killed, DOW or Disease.
