Cali was orphaned early in life. Her mother, an aspiring actress, disappeared. Her father was a former drug kingpin. She lived a life unfettered and free, sheltered, and isolated roaming the Isle of Avalon-Santa Catalina in the Galapagos of North America, a short hop off the coast near Los Angeles, until a bizarre fishing boat accident shatters and changes her life forever. Doctors Chin and Gum give her a second chance. Dr. Sperry, a colleague of Dr. Gum's, and the silver spoon rising star in the medical field prefers making motion pictures to the tedium of medical practice. Their lives cross paths again in the most peculiar way in Cabos. Cali has struggled and miraculously overcome each harrowing obstacle. Dr. Gum prepares for a fierce tournament competition in the Mexican fisherman's heaven. Dr. Sperry has pursued his dream and discarded chasing the elusive vixen, perfect for the part in his upcoming picture, all the way to the tip of the Baja peninsula. The convoluted twists and turns in this tall tale come to a chilling climax at 'land's end' as each character is caught up in an intricate network woven by the story teller.
Bernie Unrau a dentist and doctor by training, stumbled across a four minute video back in 1989, an interview with the prolific Robin Cook, a physician by training. Cook's mastery of the medical thriller inspired Unrau to embark on a 2nd career. The central character in Unrau's novels, Dr Gum, is part bumbling lieutenant Columbo, part deductive Sherlock Holmes, part Dr. Ryan from Tom Clancy's novels, and part curious Indiana Jones. Unrau brings some of his years as a dentist, lecturer, and inventor to light by engaging in espionage, elucidating an enigma, disclosing a dastardly or diabolical scheme, or dreaming up a formidable frightening future. Unrau currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
