Hobby Master: 1/72 F/A-18C Hornet
The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is a supersonic twin engine
all-weather
night fighter and attack aircraft. The F/A-18s first flew in November 1978 and
the first
production flight on April 12, 1980. The first 380 aircraft were F/A-18As and
in September
1987 production switched to the F/A-18C. Variants A and C are single-seat
aircraft while B
and D are tandem-seats. The Hornet can operate from either aircraft carriers or
land bases
with the capability of in flight refueling. A total of 1,480 A-D variants
were built.
After the first Gulf War the Kuwaiti Air Force acquired the modern McDonnell
Douglas single-
seat F-18C and two-seat D variants. Delivery of the F-18s to Kuwait began in the
first half of
1992 with 31 F-18/Cs and 8 F-18/Ds being added to the inventory by
2005. F-18/C # 428
MSN 1179 operates with the KAF 25 Fighter and Attack Squadron located at Ahmed
al Jaber
AB along with the 9 FAS. Even numbered serials belong to 25 Squadron and odd
numbered
serials belong to the 9 Squadron.
