Excerpt from History of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia 1817-1909 Dr. Busey, in his address at the announcement of Dr. Toner's death, October 21, 1896, stated that (see Busey's Souvenir, p. 370) This Society will hold his memory in honored remembrance as the faithful historian who through years of painstaking and laborious investigation collated the early history of the profession in this District from munici pal and national records, newspaper publications, family reminiscences, legend and tradition. He verified and arranged the data with such accuracy and completeness in an address delivered September 26, 1866, that it is now and always will be accepted as the standard history of the medical profession of this District prior to 1866 He was eminent and conspicuous as a patient, industrious and honest student. He was eminently and acutely truthful. The Presidential address of Dr. D. 5. Lamb, December 18, dealt mainly with the history of the Society, which, as he said had been written more especially by Dr. J. M. Toner. Dr. Lamb, in his address? Recommended that a committee be appointed to consider the question of publishing a full history. Of the Society, and report at its convenience. The recommendation was adopted by the Society, and a committee consisting of Drs. W. W. John ston, A. F. A. King and E. L. Morgan was appointed.
