Excerpt from History and General Views of the Sandwich Islands Mission The lectures were very imperfectlv prepare ed. In the autumn the approaching cold made it necessary for me to go South. At the various cities of the South I found a desire to hear respecting the Sandwich Is lands' mission. 1 therefore lectured, in some places more, and in other places less - at Baltimore, Fayetteville, N. C.; Columbia and Charleston, S. C.; Augusta, Ga; Montgomery and Mobile, Aa.; New 0rd leans and Natchez. My lectures were part ly historical and partly on the duty of Christians to evangelize the heathen. The characteristic fervor and warm-hearted pie ty of Christians at the South led them to feel much, and to request repeatedly that the'substance of what I had communicated might be sent to them afterward in a printed form.
