Author Biography

Hans J. Hillerbrand received his doctorate in Germany, though he has spent most of his career in the United States, most recently as the chair of the Department of Religion at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He has published many articles and books on the Reformation, and was the editor of The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Reformation. Dr. Hillerbrand is president of the American Academy of Religion and the American Society of Church History, and a former president of the American Society for Reformation Research.
