Proud but penniless, illegitimate beauty Gabriella St George comes to London to kill Rafe Pendragon, the man responsible for her father's death. When her plan fails, she assumes she will be sent to prison. She never expects her half-uncle to offer her a home and a chance for a better life. Nor does she expect to meet Tony, a man who leaves her dizzy with longing and dreaming of a love she fears can never be hers.

Debonair and cynical, Anthony "Tony" Black, Duke of Wyvern, doesn't believe in love. A confirmed bachelor, he has no intention of offering his name to any maiden, no matter how fair of face and form she may be. A chance encounter with the vivacious and lovely Gabriella leads to instant attraction. But when Tony learns she is the half-neice of his best friend, he knows he must put aside his passion for her. But their attraction cannot be denied. Tony wants her, but only as his mistress. Gabriella wants him, but only as his wife. Playing a sensual battle of will, Gabriella sets out to win his love ... and his name. Will he be able to walk away from her, or will she finally be the one woman who captures his heart forever?
