This Handbook provides an overview of contemporary research into early childhood literacy. The Handbook of Early Childhood Literacy deals with subjects related to the nature, function, and use of literacy and the development, learning, and teaching of literacy in early childhood. In addition it covers issues relating to researching literacy in early childhood and will be a guide to those carrying out research in early childhood literacy. The contributions reflect early childhood literacy as a worldwide and social phenomenon. The Handbook of Early Childhood Literacy particularly emphasises literacy as a socially situated and global experience, and one that is evolving in relation to changes in contemporary culture and technological innovation. The arrangement of chapters reflects a contemporary perspective on research into early childhood literacy. Major sections include: the global world of early childhood literacy; childhood literacy and family; community and culture; the development of literacy in early childhood; pedagogy and early childhood literacy researching early childhood literacy.
